2021 Charitable Partner Announcement

The Fertility Partnership are excited to announce that we are extending our two-year-long partnership with baby charity Tommy’s! We first partnered with Tommy’s in 2019 and have taken the decision to extend our partnership for an extra year, following the uncertainty caused by the Coronavirus pandemic. Who are Tommy’s?

We are a charity with a mission to stop miscarriage, preterm birth and stillbirth and make pregnancy safer for everyone, regardless of who or where they are. 1 in 4 parents lose a baby during pregnancy and birth. We think that is unacceptable.

Pregnancy research receives very little funding and a lack of research and the common misconception that a baby’s death during pregnancy or birth is “just one of those things” means that too many babies die, causing a lifelong burden of grief on families. For too long, it seems that no-one has been willing to answer the question no parent should have to ask: “why did our baby die?”.

Tommy’s believes that every baby lost is one too many. We exist to support, care for and champion people, no matter where they may be on their pregnancy journey. We do this by:

  • Funding pioneering research to identify the reasons for loss, and understand how we can prevent it, allowing us to care for people at our clinics, centres and across the NHS.
  • Providing expert, midwife-led advice for people before, during and after pregnancy, working together towards safer pregnancies.
  • Fostering a connected, caring community united in our goal to make pregnancy safer for all and advocating for and supporting those who have lost babies.

Our services are needed now more than ever. At the height of lockdown, our Tommy’s midwives received 71% more enquiries compared to 2019 as families tried to access reliable health information. We have been working to reach women where English isn’t their first language with up-to-date information about coronavirus, pregnancy and where to turn to for support. Following Chrissy Teigen’s sad news of the loss of her baby Jack, we helped to open up the conversation to break the silence surrounding baby loss and supported families who have experienced loss during lockdown.

Our vision is to make the UK the safest place in the world to give birth. We know that with the amazing support from The Fertility Partnership, we can work together to achieve that vision.

About the partnership

Following a staff vote back in 2019, Tommy’s was chosen as charity partner for the two years (from 2019-2021). We set an incredible fundraising target of £50,000 that would be raised through employee fundraising, volunteering and company donations. We’re delighted to say that in one year The Fertility Partnership has raised over £30,000 for us! And not only that, but The Fertility Partnership have generously decided to extend our partnership by an additional year in the wake of the uncertainty caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

“We are absolutely delighted that The Fertility Partnership are extending their partnership with Tommy’s. Although 1 in 4 pregnancies ends in loss, the stigma and silence around it means people can feel incredibly alone in their grief – an issue made worse this year by the isolation of coronavirus lockdown. While our work matters more now than ever, our fundraising has also been hit hard by the pandemic. We’re extremely grateful to The Fertility Partnership and their customers who are helping to raise vital funds and awareness for our charity.”

– Rosie Leverton, Tommy’s Head of Corporate Partnerships

“At TFP we are proud to support Tommy’s.  Their hard work into research and providing support to patients is so important.  Our staff have worked hard to raise funds and raise awareness of Tommy’s and we look forward to continuing it throughout 2021.”

– Jude Fleming, The Fertility Partnership, Executive Vice President – Northern Europe
